Garland helps Padres shut out Brewers again

05/02/2010 - San Diego, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jon Garland scattered three hits over seven innings and Scott Hairston went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, as San Diego blanked Milwaukee, 8-0, in the finale of a four-game series at PETCO Park.

Garland (3-2) walked five and struck out three, while Mike Adams worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Sean Gallagher managed to preserve the shutout despite walking the bases loaded in the ninth.

Tony Gwynn tripled home a run for the Padres, who had their eight-game home winning streak snapped with a 2-1 loss on Saturday.

Randy Wolf (2-2) gave up four runs on six hits, walked six and struck out five in five full frames for Milwaukee, which has dropped eight of its last 10 games.

The Brewers were shut out three times in this series.

San Diego got on the board in the third. Lance Zawadzki led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a Garland sacrifice bunt and scored on Gwynn's hit. Gwynn came home on Hairston's two-out single.

Hairston and Kyle Blanks hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0. Will Venable contributed a run-scoring single in the seventh, and the Padres tacked on three more runs during the next inning.

Adrian Gonzalez started the eighth with a single, Gwynn walked and Jerry Hairston Jr. recorded an RBI single. After pinch-hitter Matt Stairs was intentionally walked, loading the bases with two outs, Yorvit Torrealba reached on an infield single, with another run coming home on reliever Todd Coffey's errant throw to first base.

Game Notes

San Diego improved to 10-3 at home...The Padres won four of six meetings with Milwaukee a season ago.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
