02/17/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings open a home-and- home set tonight, when the two Pacific Division members face off at the Staples Center.
The Ducks came into their most recent outing having been shut out three times in their previous five games, but responded offensively with a 5-4 overtime win over Phoenix on Thursday.
Teemu Selanne scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the extra session, and Chris Pronger also scored twice for Anaheim, which snapped a three-game skid that included back-to-back blankings at Dallas and Colorado.
Jean-Sebastian Giguere finished with 22 saves in the win, which improved the Ducks to 16-11-3 on the road. Anaheim currently holds an three-point edge over San Jose for the Pacific Division lead.
Tonight's showdown will conclude a four-game road trip for Anaheim, which is 1-2-0 so far on the swing.
Los Angeles has been out of action since Tuesday, when it dropped a 2-1 decision to Carolina. Alexander Frolov scored the lone Kings goal and Sean Burke made 27 saves in the loss, Los Angeles' third in four games.
The Kings, who are 11-12-7 at home this season and sit dead last in the Western Conference with 47 points, will travel to Anaheim on Sunday.
On Wednesday, the Kings and center Derek Armstrong reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension. The 33-year-old Armstrong has tallied nine goals and a career-high 30 assists in 54 games this season and also leads the team with a plus-16 rating.
Anaheim has won three of the four encounters between the area rivals this season, including both matchups held at the Staples Center. The Ducks have come away with victories four straight times as the visitor in this series and are 7-1-0 in their last eight overall meetings with Los Angeles.
The Kings did take the most recent game between these clubs, however, a 3-2 decision in Anaheim on December 3.

Those are the words of notoriously intense head coach Herman Edwards. Unfortunately, from a bettors’ perspective, most coaches don’t feel that way about the NFL preseason. August is a time to evaluate young players, finalize the depth chart and pray your star players stay healthy.

Bettors can count on America’s team early on. The Cowboys are 14-6 both SU and ATS since 2002 in warm-up contests. Former coach Bill Parcells, the coach of the team the last four years, has an intimidating, in-your-face presence – surely a reason Dallas has had so much early success.

This team scored a league-worst 12 offensive touchdowns last season, so the rookies and veterans each have something to prove. There’s a bounty of first-unit jobs up for grabs and plenty of bodies competing for those slots.
First-time head coach Lane Kiffin will be eager to impress an owner who employs the philosophy, “Just win, baby!”
The 32-year-old Kiffin has to command respect from a locker room full of players older than him. All of these factors should lead to purpose in preseason.
Don’t forget: before playing like a team that belonged in NFL Europe, Oakland went 4-1 (both SU and ATS) in exhibition games.
