03/15/2008 - Valencia, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brad Bryant played the final six holes in five-under Saturday to take a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the AT&T Champions Classic.
Bryant posted a five-under 67 in tough conditions to complete 36 holes at seven-under-par 137.
Bryant's brother, Bart, is among the leaders at the PGA Tour's Arnold Palmer Invitational. Asked about his brother, Brad said, "I think that Bart needs to win, because we need the money."
Last week's winner Bernhard Langer, R.W. Eaks, Jay Haas and Tom Jenkins all shot four-under 68 to move into a share of second minus-five. They were joined there by Loren Roberts (70).
As John Cook joked after the round, "we saw all four seasons out there today." Temperatures were in the low 50s at best and there was intermittent rain and wind that kept scores in check.
Bryant was nowhere near the lead as he headed to the back nine. He birdied the first and ninth, but bogeyed three and seven to make the turn at minus-two. He trailed by four as he started the back nine at Valencia Country Club.
The reigning U.S. Senior Open champ parred the first three holes of the back nine before shooting into the lead with a furious finish.
Bryant ran home a birdie on the par-four 13th. He drained an eagle putt from just inside 40 feet on the par-five 15th to jump into a share of the lead at minus-five.
The 53-year-old sank a seven-footer for birdie on 17 to grab the lead at six- under. Bryant picked up one last birdie on 18, where he kicked in a three- footer.
"I've hit the ball good all week," Bryant stated. "Hopefully tomorrow the good karma will keep going."
Bryant is playing this week after taking last week off.
"I have a deal with my family that I'm not going to travel two weeks in a row unless I can go home in between or they can come with me," Bryant explained. "Because of the school situation right now, I just had to take last week off. It's better to be taxi driver, sometimes, than golfer."
Langer and Jenkins each posted six birdies and two bogeys in their rounds.
Eaks bogeyed the third, but got that shot back with a birdie on five. He ran off three birdies in a four-hole stretch from the ninth. Eaks also birdied the last to share second.
Haas traded a birdie for a bogey from the first and again from the fifth. He poured in three straight birdies from the eighth to get to minus-four.
After a bogey on the 14th, Haas birdied the par-five 15th. He notched his final birdie on 17 to finish at minus-five.
Roberts was even-par through eight holes with birdies on one and three to go with bogeys on the fifth and eighth.
After four straight pars from the ninth, Roberts birdied 13 and 14 to move to minus-five. He gave a shot back on 16, but erased that mistake with a birdie on the par-four 17th.
There is also a logjam on players tied for seventh. Mark McNulty matched Bryant's 67 to share low round of the day. That moved McNulty into a tie for seventh at four-under-par 140.
McNulty was joined there by John Cook (69), Fred Funk (70), Graham Marsh (71), defending champion Tom Purtzer (73), Scott Simpson (69) and Jeff Sluman (70).

Super Bowl XLIII isn't even a week old yet and oddsmakers have already released Super Bowl XLIV odds.
Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers winning Super Bowl 43, the New England Patriots are 8/1 favorites to win Super Bowl 44.
Bet Super Bowl XLIV Future Odds
With their 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, the Steelers became the latest NFL champion. But believe it or not, oddsmakers from online sports book MySportsbook.com don't have the Steelers the favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV next season.
That honor belongs to the New England Patriots, who are 8/1 favorites to win despite not even qualify for the postseason in 2008. The Pats also have a major decision to make regarding what to do with Matt Cassel, who played well in Tom Brady's (knee surgery) absence last year but is also a free agent this offseason.
Ironically, the Steelers aren't even oddsmakers second choice to win Super Bowl 44, as the Dallas Cowboys are listed right behind the Patriots at 9/1 despite not making the playoffs themselves. Clearly oddsmakers think the public will hop back on the Cowboys' bandwagon considering the immense talent they have and the opening of a brand new stadium.
After Dallas, then comes Pittsburgh at 10/1, but they share those odds with the New York Giants, who won Super Bowl XLII. The Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers round out the top six teams at 12/1, while the Baltimore Ravens (14/1), Tennessee Titans (16/1), Carolina Panthers (18/1) and Philadelphia Eagles (18/1) complete the top 10.
The NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals got no love from oddsmakers as they were established as a 30/1 long shot to win next year's Super Bowl. They share those same odds with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – two teams that didn't even qualify for the postseason. Other long shots are the Kansas City Chiefs (100/1), Detroit Lions (100/1), St. Louis Rams (75/1) and Oakland Raiders (75/1).
