05/05/2010 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Matt Diaz singled in the winning run in the 10th inning as the Braves won a back-and-forth contest, 7-6, over the Washington Nationals, in the second of a three-game set.
Omar Infante homered and four players tallied two hits for the Braves, who have won four-of-five. They also snapped an eight-game skid on the road.
Tommy Hanson surrendered four runs on nine hits in six frames. Kris Medlen (1-1) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Billy Wagner earned his third save.
Ian Desmond belted a home run and scored twice for the Nationals, who have dropped three-of-four.
Luis Atilano lasted 5 1/3 frames while allowing six runs on seven hits with five walks. Matt Capps (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up the winning run in two innings of relief.
The lead changed hands five times before Atlanta went ahead for good.
Diaz came to the plate with one down in the 10th after Troy Glaus singled. Brandon Hicks took his place on the bases and moved to second on Melky Cabrera's sacrifice bunt. Diaz then nailed a single to right for the go-ahead hit.
Wagner allowed a Cristian Guzman lead-off single, but retired the next three batters.
The Nationals put a run on the board in the first after Nyjer Morgan led off with a ground-rule double and moved to third on Adam Kennedy's sacrifice bunt. Ryan Zimmerman then drove him in on a broken-bat sacrifice fly to center. Ivan Rodriguez then doubled after Adam Dunn walked, but Willie Harris fouled out to end the threat.
Atlanta countered in the second as Infante drilled a two-run shot to left. Glaus started the frame with a walk and scored on the homer.
Washington took back the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the second on Desmond's lead-off blast and Morgan's one-out RBI double.
The back-and-forth scoring continued in the third as the Braves tied the game at three on Chipper Jones' one-out RBI single, which followed Martin Prado's double. They took the lead in the fifth when Glaus brought home Prado with a groundout.
In the bottom of the fifth, Kennedy singled and Dunn walked with one out to allow Rodriguez to single in Kennedy on a hit-and-run for a 4-4 tie.
The Braves took a 6-4 advantage in the sixth. After Diaz and Infante reached to start, Hanson struck out to make way for Sean Burnett to enter. Nate McLouth doubled off him for the first run as Prado came up next and grounded out to short, allowing Infante to come home. Jones was then intentionally walked, but Brian McCann struck out, stranding runners on first and third.
Pinch-hitter Josh Willingham tied the game for the Nats in the eighth. Desmond reached first on an error with one down and moved to third on Roger Bernadina's double. Willingham then singled in both with a liner to left off Takashi Saito.

Super Bowl XLIII is now set, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet each other on February 1st in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium to battle it out for the coveted Lombardi Trophy. The game kicks off at 6:00pm ET on NBC with announcers Al Michaels and John Madden covering the on-field action. Super Bowl XLIII betting odds at online bookmaker MySportsbook.com have the Steelers listed as an early -6.5 against the spread favorite.Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds
Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.
The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.
The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.
Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:
Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)
Arizona Cardinals +6.5 (-110), Under 46.5 (-110), +220 (Money line)
Matt Foust won both of his conference championship plays yesterday and he is ready to serve up plenty of Super Bowl action. Each individual play costs $15.00, however, MySportsbook.com recommends purchasing Matt's NFL Playoff Package which includes all of Matt's Super Bowl props and picks from just $45.00.
